It’s Mackinac Time!

Follow the Chicago to Mackinac race this weekend.  Five  club boats are entered in the race this year involving at least 50 people.  You can follow the race news, see scratch sheets, call in times and results at www.chicagoyachtclub.org.  Tracking is provided for nearly all competitors this race and it is a great way to see where everyone is on the race course.  Go to www.fistracking.com. The CYC boats are: Bramble (Bruce Rohrer) USA 41812 section 5, Windrunner (Mark and Carol Pirie) USA 51572 in Section 6, Padawan II (Chris and Autumn Lamb) USA 52081, Northern Light (Tom and Linda Orlow)USA 93165 both in the Beneteau 36.7 Fleet, and Sail LaVie (Sam and Cass Williamson) USA 25201 Cruising Class.

What Happened? Boating Mysteries Solved

The Charlevoix Yacht Club and the Charlevoix Public Library are teaming up to provide a very interesting program June 16, 2007.  What happened to two attorneys on “Sea’s Life” in Lake Huron near Mackinaw Island during the summer of 2005?  Accident or something else? What happened to “Charley’s Crab” and what happened to the “Sea           Mar III” ?  Mr. Jack Cote, Nationally known Maritime Law Specialist who has been featured on Dateline NBC, and in several newspaper articles and magazines, will present his work on these cases and more.

March 23- Crossing the Atlantic and Cruising the Med with new member Christine Staats.  She will present a power point of her travels with husband Jack aboard IONA their Camper Nicholson 35.  Cruise around Spain, Morocco, Malta and
Italy in your chair Crissie will talk about how she does positioning, gets weather information and prepares for an Atlantic crossing.
 

April 13 – Does your Boat Insurance Really Cover all You Do? Don’t find out the hard way!  Mr. Mike Smith, President Global Marine Insurance Agency, will present a program of boating insurance stories-what went right, what was wrong.  Learn what to look for in boat insurance coverage from this notable expert. 

April 27 – Mark Madness, CYC Skippers Meeting and Potluck Dinner.  Bob Kopec from Boyne City will kick off our race readiness by presenting this years Mark Madness race for Challenge Mountain. The CYC race committee will orientate skippers to the Wed. night race series – there may be some changes…! And, we’ll enjoy potluck dinner provided by all the wonderful CYC cooks!  Come for important information and good food!

REMINDER:  This Friday, March 9 – Get Optimum Performance from your Engine. Don Voisin, as crew chief for son Vince in the American Power Boat Association, knows what it takes to go fast and stay in top performance mode.  He will talk about their powerboat racing experiences and the motors, propellers, maintenance and safety equipment required for optimum performance.

Corinne Cox from West Marine has been transferred so Mike Smith of Global Marine will present his program on Boating Insurance Friday, April 13.  Stay tuned for the program that will replace him on March 23.  Please refer to the CYC website calendar for the latest schedule of events.

Sailing Smart Rules Seminar

Please note that Sailing Smart Rules Seminar will be held at the Grand Traverse Bay Yacht CLub on April 21, 2007. Allan Teske will conduct the all day session on rules and the event will include lunch. The seminar is hosted by CYC and GTBYC.
