CYC 2008 Events

March 18, 2008

Friday March 21:  Ice Boating There is a group of hearty sailors that regularly meet wherever the ice is thick enough to spend Saturdays sailing in the winter.   Dick Wollam, Vice Commodore, and Julie from the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club will be here this Friday to present The World of Iceboating.  Just this last weekend about 75 ice boats participated in the GTIYC’s annual Fun Regatta at Elk Lake.  There were kids with Opti rigs on smaller boats for the Opti Central Regional’s, the reigning DN World champion and past champions, and sailors from all over the Midwest!  Dick and Julie will present information, pictures and maybe have a boat here to look at this Friday, March 21!.. The club will be open at 6, program at 7 and coffee drinks specials!  A great evening!

Friday April 4: Beginning tonight, CYC will NOT be open on Friday unless there is a host: Make sure to check the calendar at www.CharlevoixYachtClub.org for a specific Fridays’ event. Saturday, April 26:  CYC Boating Safety Review Do you know how to effectively use a fire extinguisher, shoot off your flares, treat an unconscious person and accomplish a MOB drill?  Come for this refresher evening.  The Charlevoix Fire Department will conduct the hands-on first aid/CPR review and fire extinguisher training.  The Orlows will conduct the MOB review and flare operation. Normal hours 6-9, the event will begin about 7.

CYC supports a local Family

December 19, 2007

As in past years, CYC is again supporting a local family in need this holiday season.  The family is in Charlevoix County and has three young boys. Depending on the funds, we most likely will make a deposit toward heat for this family and a toy for each child.  You may contribute to the “sock” at the club through Friday, Dec. 21.  or send a contribution (tax deductable) by check made out to Northwest Michigan Head Start to John Friedly or Lynn Smolenyak.

Celebrate the Holiday Season - CYC Christmas Party

Charlevoix Boats do well in the Races to Mackinac

July 28, 2007

Several Charlevoix boats did very well in the recent races to Mackinaw Island.  In the Chicago to Mackinac race Padawan2 placed 2nd in the Beneteau 36.7 class, Bramble placed 3rd in Section 5 and Sail La Vie placed 4th in the new cruising class.  In the Port Huron to Mackinac race, Windrunner placed 90th over all in the field of 240 boats.  Congratulations to the many sailors who took part in these frustratingly sloooooow races this year!
